Does anyone know, what is the function of the "XXX" field and is it useful? However, Is it possible to edit the bar: I would like to delete this "XXX" field, as I am not using it.
I would like to have the Termbase Viewer window as narrow as possible so that I could see all the icons Edit, Save, Cancel and Delete.

If you are using Input Models in MultiTerm (https://docs.rws.com/796827/370975/multiterm-2021-sr2/creating-input-models) this is where you can choose which input model to apply when adding or editing terms in the Termbase Viewer.
According to the linked-to page, "an input model is a termbase object that provides you with a template for creating and editing termbase entries. When you apply an input model for adding or editing entries, you ensure consistency of data entries in a multi-user environment."
It's a dropdown with a search field, so where you entered xxx is where you would enter a string that would help you find the right input model quickly, in case you defined several in MultiTerm.
