  • Well... where did you create your projects?  In "Trados Live" or in Trados Studio?  Incidentally there isn't a product called "Trados Live" anymore.  The old "Trados Live" that comprised of SDL Translation Translation Management System, Trados Live Team and Trados Essentials is now Trados Enterprise, Trados Team and simply cloud capabilities within Trados Studio.  So every user Trados Studio gets some cloud capabilities for their own personal use.  You'll probably see old branding if you are not using the latest versions of the software.  I'm just noting this because it might help you when looking for information on how to work with the tools.

Trados 2019 isn't going to be terribly well integrated as this was the very first iteration.  Since then we have had 2021 which provided for better integration and now we have 2022 which has improved again.  So this means you won't be able to do all the things you might see advertised today.

I'm pretty sure that Trados Studio 2019 allowed the following:

    • download a project created in the cloud and work on it in Trados Studio
    • use cloud based resources such as terminology and machine translation

There may be some conditions around when this was possible ad when it wasn't and it may have been mostly for working on projects initiated in Trados Enterprise.  To be honest I really cannot remember how far the integration went in 2019!!  It was 2021 when it started to become a more useful feature in Trados Studio.

Maybe can shed more light on this?

A more clinical response is probably that you should really update if this is what you want as 2019 is nearly out of support anyway and the initial release didn't include any support for cloud projects at all.

ok - based on your description it looks as though you have two options to solve your actual problem which seems to be just how to work on two computers.

    1. you could purchase Freelance Plus and this gives you an additional licence so you can work on your desktop and your laptop at the same time.  You would however need to upgrade as we don't sell 2021 anymore.  So you would need 2022.
    2. you could stay as you are and use the cloud capabilities of Trados Studio 2021

If you use 1. then you would need to mirror your setup so the paths etc. are the same on both machines and then regularly copy the files between computers to keep them in synch. I know many users try to work with OneDrive or similar, but I personally would not recommend this as working on OneDrive often leads to other problems.

If you use 2. then you would create your projects either on one machine and publish to the cloud, or create the projects in the cloud in the first place.  Then in theory you could install Studio on your laptop as well and work with the cloud projects locally on either machine.  Without a Plus licence you would have to deactivate/activate your licence when switching between machines.

With 2. you could also publish to the cloud and then work on the projects in the browser environment  and then you would not require the additional licence or Studio on your laptop.  You would just login to your language cloud account and work on the projects in a browser.

    This screenshot is from 2021:

Trados Studio interface showing a list of projects with one highlighted and an arrow pointing to the 'Save to Cloud' option in the toolbar.

Select your project and then Save to Cloud.  Before you do this I'd recommend you sign into your language cloud account and set it up so you are able to easily and quickly do this.  If you don't then the transition from Desktop to Cloud isn't as seamless as it will be once you have configured your environment in the cloud.  A very simple demo can be found here:

And probably most important look at the product help for Trados Studio users looking to work with the cloud capabilities:

I think it's best you try it and then if you have any specific questions we will be happy to help.
