Is this happening for a very simple XLSX as well - a new Worksheet with 1 cell with a text ? Or is it for a specific XLSX you have. To check if you have an actual XLSX format, open it in a text editor and check it starts with "PK". Anything else will not be a proper XLSX file format, even if MS Excel can open it.
The best is to use Preview File feature.... via File > Options > FileType > Microsoft Excel 2007 - 2019 ...... Load the XLSX file to a "Preview file" field and click Preview. If even a simple XLSX doesn't show the content extracted, perhaps you may have some non-default options selected - e.g. extract based on color or similar ... just click at "Reset to Defaults" button while having "Microsoft Excel 2007 - 2019" filetype highlighted and try to preview file again.
