Maybe this is the problem? It should be "source" not "source-language" for example:

I tried with source also and it did not work either !
I changed the settings directly in Trados>options but when I create the project it seems I have to do the settings all over again. Maybe that is the issue ? The fact that the settings are not "saved" ?
Sounds as though you are not making the changes in the template you then use for your project. That will definitely be an issue. But as I noted your settings for the xpath to the content are incorrect.
You also didn't share the actually file, only a screenshot.

No. If you don't use a template then the default will be used. Normally anything you change in File -> Options will be reflected in the out of the box default template. You mentioned Trados -> Options and I assumed you meant File -> Options as there is no Trados -> Options. But perhaps you really meant you changed in the Project Settings? If you did this then you are correct, creating a new project will not use any of those settings unless you tell the project wizard to use the settings from the project that contained the settings you updated.

Thanks ! My main issue here being that I can not select Multilingual XML over xliff in the project settings, I can not remove Xliff also from the list of all files recognized so that it "forces" the selection of XML.

Here is what I have been doing. Basically I create a "new project", add the xliff file, set the language, modify the settings and then finish the project. But it still won't open as anything else but Xliff.
I am only trying to invert the languages because my client need a EN>DA translation yet I have many DE>EN files and I need to have the English as the source. There may be an easier way ?
Are you still in the wilderness ? I thought you got an answer you needed via Paul already...
I have changed its "contents", not its "names" between source and target.
so..
It has target language contents under source language name and again, it has source language contents under target language name.
You'd beeter check it out first.
