Is there a way to autopropagate reviewed text to replace a target translation?

Hi,

I'm working on several review projects, where the sdlppx I receive already includes the source and the target. However, my linguist does not have Trados 2021 SR2, and does the reviewing on a third party software. For this, I've tried a bilingual, and an xliff export and the original sdlxliff, that some software can read.

However, they can only provide me with a file that's incompatible, or a TMX-file. For a translation, the TMX import option works fine, and Trados 2021 SR2 autopropagates the matching translations from the updated TM. This is not the case with reviewed files. It seems that once the target exists in the file, I can't autopropagate the changes. Considering there might be edits to houndreds of lines, this would be very useful.

So my question is: if I update the TM by importing a TMX, is there a way to autopropagate the changes instead of the original targets? And to add: if a TMX is not the best way, how would you do it?

I'm using the Trados Studio 2021 SR2 - 16.2.8.9097 Freelance edition with the pre-translate settings as follows (I assume these are related). I've also tried selecting "Always overwrite existing translation" thinking it would in fact replace the old with the new:

Thanks!

  • Sure, you can customize the auto-propagation behaviour. File⇾Options⇾Editor⇾Auto-propagation:

Trados Studio options menu with 'Auto-propagation' section highlighted, showing settings for enabling auto-propagation, minimum match value, and prompting user options.

    Does that answer your question?

  • Hi Daniel,

I think this migt be it, though I have to dig a bit deeper. I did study the settings, but to be honest, I didn't see any change. I think the issue is not with getting a prompt, but more in how the translations simply do not auto-propagate. However, trying this out, I never got any prompt anyway even when I checked always.

Let me explain: I've imported the TMX, and the correct translation is visible in the TM as you can see below

Screenshot of Trados Studio showing a Translation Memory (TM) match with 100% match value and a warning message stating 'Cannot add area property - device area not available.'

Simply put, the dash has been changed in the review phase. The above section is from the editor, below is the Translation Results window. So I see the correct translation has been imported into the active TM, but it hasn't been propagated into the editor from the TM. My starting position of A-P is from the next segment, and I've confirmed the review on the segment above. I also know that I can insert the new translation by clickin Ctrl+T. However, this project has houndreds of segments and a lot of them have been changed. I would need to have the new translations from the TM to be inserted automatically so that I could go through them.

I feel like there's a step of automation I'm missing: I keep looking for an "auto-propagate from TM" button, but can't find any.
