What exactly do you mean by "the online version of Trados"?

The Freelance Subscription version that doesn't require you to download it onto a computer so you only work online with it.

I checked in your account and you have purchased a Trados Studio Freelance subscription licence. So you can download Studio to a computer, but you can also create your projects online.  All Trados Studio (Freelance or Professional) offer you this.

So the questions you/we have are these:

So you can create a project in the cloud with an SDLPPX.  But it does come with some limitations and behaviour that you need to be careful about and also knowledgeable about.  The help documentation here starts to explain:

On this part:

• When adding *.sdlppx as source file, the system extracts its content automatically:
  • Translatable files
  • Reference files
  • TMs marked as Reference files
  • TBs marked as Reference files
  • *.sdlppx marked as Reference file

What you will actually see here is the source language sdlxliff files and the target language sdlxliff files are marked and made available as "translatable".  So the first thing you need to do is ONLY translate the sdlxliff files from the package that are in the target language folder.  Once you have done that you also need to note that you cannot create a return package from here, so can only return the translated sdlxliff files as separate fies and your customer will have to know how to use these to update their project.

So in practice I would say that this workflow is really only suitable for an experience user and customer.

The only way to work in a more foolproof manner is to open the sdlppx file in Trados Studio, save to the cloud if this is preferable for you, translate the files in the browser in the online editor, update your Trados Studio project when complete and create the return package from Trados Studio.  Or just do the entire workflow in Trados Studio.

I think the use of the online environment in this case is really only beneficial in these scenarios:

1. if you like to complete the project online as you are away from your normal work environment
2. if your client creates an online project in the first place instead of sending you a project package.  this way you only have to login the browser to work and you won't need Trados Studio at all

As a very new user I would not recommend you try to handle an SDLPPX in the online environment without using Trados Studio to open the package first.

I don't have administrator privileges on the computer at the moment, so I can't download / install... however, I have just thought of a solution (my husband has a computer and I may be able to download it onto his and then work online)
