Adding multiple shortcut options for one action

Sorry if someone already asked the same thing,

There is a field to enter customized shortcuts to a specific action (like Ctrl+K to show preview screen etc.) under Options,

but it seemed it is not possible to set multiple set of key comibinations (like Ctrl+ K and Ctrl+ P both trigger preview)

because once you enter a specific key combination pair, the option to enter further shortcuts by comma separate is disabled.

If you try to write "Ctrl+ K, Ctrl+ P" in notepad and then try to paste it to the field, you only get Ctrl+V entered in option field.

I see at least it is possible to allocate multiple key action pair to one edit action because pre-defined ones sometimes have two option for one action - how is it possible to customize? The version is 2022 but it seemed this is the same for all versions,

thanks for your kind help in advance!

  • I think these were done this way to suit some common options based on user profiles.  I guess if you customise one of them and then look in your usersettings file you'll see the customised shortcut.  You could then manually type in the multiple shortcuts in the settings file itself and this would probably work.

But the question from Lydia is a good one.  If you only use one then just use that.  Why do you need to have two?

  • In general I agree with you, having too many shortcuts makes them harder to remember. I just see one exception: QuickPlace for tags: I need here both CTRL+, AND CTRL+ALT+ARROW RIGHT/LEFT. Depending on the situation the use of one of those is faster. Usually I am faster with the arrow keys (old habit from Trados 2007 and before), but sometimes CTRL+, is better. Sometimes even CTRL+click is a good option, that really depends.
