TM creating duplicate TUs

Working with a specific TM (approximately 14 k TUs) onTrados Studio 2021 SR2 - 16.2.10.9305, from time to time it happens that the TM starts storing duplicate TUs instead of overwriting, when editing a 100% match.

Of course this problem can be solved exporting and recreating the TM, and then it works just fine for a couple of months, but after a while (weeks or months) it starts duplicating TUs again.

Just to make sure that CTRL+Enter is interpreted correctly by my virtual Windows machine on Mac, I have also used the Confirm button, but the behaviour doesn't change.

Has anyone experienced the same problem?

TIA

  • I think I found the solution to my problem:

As this particular TM on Dropbox, I figured out that the creation of duplicates could be connected to a bad internet connection. We've had some problems yesterday, which I thought had been fixed, but apparently this morning we were still having some hiccups).

Now the TM works fine again, and it's still on Dropbox! :-)

I've also tried to move the TM to a local folder, and it works perfectly there too.

Now I'm curious, if the people who experienced the same problem some time (or years) ago, had their TMs stored on a cloud drive.

    Have a great weekend!

  • Thanks for coming back with this .  I think cloud drives are amore common problem than people admit to.  I don't think anyone does this on purpose but today's computers just default to cloud drives, particularly with OneDrive and if you don't take care to save your resources and projects somewhere off the synching to the cloud you can run into trouble.  Cloud drives are fine for small files or files you work with occasionally, but not for large files or files that are written to every few seconds throughout the day.

Trados Team/Enterprise is a managed solution for sharing these kinds of large resources in the cloud, and all Freelance users now can use a Translation Engine on the same platform if they choose.  But I guess the problem will always be when you want to work offline as synching the local and cloud resources needs to be more seamless to make this a really useful experience.
