Issues with Dropbox Sync. Trados is crashing "Fail to save project, because it is being used by another process"

I have purchased Dropbox Backup service. All it does is to create a backup of my files on cloud, and it syncs all from my PC.

Now, everytime I try to save a file, which is seating right in my PC (no in the cloud) or to open, or to add a TM, Trados crashes and says "Fail to save project, because it is being used by another process".

I don't quite understand why the fact my files are connected to Dropbox affects the ability of Trados to open them, all paths remain the same, and Dropbox says it does not change anything, it only creates a backup link to the folders I assign to.

No other CAT Tool I use (MemoQ, Memsource) has created issues with opening/saving files since I linked an automatic backup.

Is there anyway of fixing this. Together with Trados crashing at least 3 times a week, I cannot tell enough how frustrated I am to being forced to use this tool.

I have Trados 2021.

  • The very simplest solution for this is NOT saving ANY Trados files in folders being permanently synchronized with the cloud. The better way is to store all files locally and then have these folders being synchronized with the cloud on daily scheduled basis. You do not need to have a live backup copy of your files, a daily (hourly if you really want) backup will fully suffice.

This is the first part of the story. The second part is: are you allowed by your customers to put their files into a cloud? This is what I very much doubt. From what I know looking at my customers no single one of the would allow me to put anything into DropBox, OneDrive or similar. I have a very sophisticated backup solution here, but all is local. And this does not cause the slightest problem with Trados.
