I have tried the above and found the following.

1. What happens if you try another filetype?  So just create a small text file for example and test it.  Does that work?

The first time, I receive the error message: “File sniffer for file type “Tab Delimited v 2.0.0.0’ failed.

I tried again a few times and it worked.

2. What happens if you use a different Translation Memory?

I used a txt file and a different memory and it worked the first time.
The second time, no translation memory came and I wasn’t able to open the file in Trados (clicking ok had no effect)

3. What happens if you open the word file without a translation memory at all?

I get the same original message (Attempted to read of write protected memory…)

Would you know how to solve my issue?

Well, in the end, it would seem the files sent by the client (I was trying with many different files, but all were sent by the same client) were the issue. When I tried with a Word document of mine, it worked with no error message. I'll see how I go now!
