Hello,
I am working in Trados Studio 2021 SR2 - 16.2.9.9198. Is there a way to convert an sdlxliff file to an xliff? I would appreciate knowing how to do this.
Thank you very much in advance,

I think the first question is was the original file an XLIFF or not? The reason I ask is because if you converted an XLIFF to get your SDLXIFF then all you have to do is save the target file and you'll get the XLIFF. But if the original file was something else, like a Word file, Excel, InDesign, XML etc. then it would be helpful to understand the reason for converting to XLIFF as methods available could depend on your usecase. It is perfectly possible, but I'd like to know why you want this first in case I steer you in the wrong direction.
Hi Paul,
Thanks for your response. There was no xliff file to begin with. I just translated a PDF file using Trados Studio 2021, and that is how I now have an sdlxliff file. My client wants an xliff file for their proprietary translation software. So, this is why I would like to be able to convert the existing sdlxliff file to an xliff file to give to my client.
I hope this is clear.
Thanks,
Laura
ok... in this case I think the plugin best suited your usecase would be the XLIFF Manager:
This will allow you to export your fies as a very vanilla XLIFF that any translation tool should be able to handle. In addition this app will also support you importing a reviewed or translated XLIFF back in again to update your Studio project.
This article might be useful for you as well as it explains how the plugin works (and there's a video at the end):

Interestingly SDLXLIFF is already a valid XLIFF and has been built in accordance with the XLIFF specification. But some tools do indeed have a problem handling the extensibility of it.
Thanks so much! I did manage to get it changed. It really wasn't hard. This agency is huge, and its employees are very unskilled. It probably is possible to use the sdlxliff, but they just don't know how to import it properly. Their software is a mess which is why I don't want to use it for translation. Now that I have learned how to convert the sdlxliff it should be OK for me to continue using my Trados software. Hallelujah!
Best,
Laura
