Multilingual XML FileType: How to handle Multilingual XML with different scopes in languages

Hello,

Can Multilingual XML FileType handle a Multilingual XML with with different scopes in languages as follows?

XML code snippet showing source text in English with translation instructions for French (Canada) and Spanish (Mexico).

Source language is en-US and target languages are es-MX and fr-CA.

Only string tag contents that exist in the xml files need to be translated.

Language Mapping:

Trados Studio Language Mapping settings showing French (Canada), Spanish (Mexico), and English (United States) with their respective XPath locations.

Language Pairs:

Trados Studio project settings with source language set to English (United States) and target languages French (Canada) and Spanish (Mexico) selected.

The result of after creating a project, run pseudo translation and Generate Multilingual Transactions (XML):

XML code snippet with pseudo translations for Spanish (Mexico) and French (France), indicating an unexpected change from French (Canada) to French (France).

The results were quite unexpected.

  • New String tags are added with translations (Expecting that contents are replaces in existing String tags)
  • lang attribute was changed from fr-CA into fr-FR and  <string lang="fr-CA" /> is newly added

I'm not sure if this has been caused by my wrong Language Mapping setting or by the limitations of the FileType.

Is there any way to handle this type of Multilingual XML file with different translation scopes among languages? Please be noted the xml file format can be modified as this XML is used as an interim format. Original source file is a Multilingual Excel file in which contents to be translated defined by a specific color. As this type of Excel cannot be handled out-of-box with current Studio functions, I'm considering to handle it another way.
