Translation segments no saved when clicking on "save as..."

Hello,

I'm working on an excel file with 2 rows source language and target language and this morning everything was fine but now when I click on" save as....."  the translated segments are no longer saved, actually all the other translated segment have DISAPPEARED!!

Now the excel file shows only the row with source language not the target language although all segments are on the Editor screen. Also, when checking the TM there is no folder containing the segments translated...

Any idea what's going on?

  • Hi ,

when I click on" save as....."  the translated segments are no longer saved,

Do you mean File > Save or Save Target as?

Screenshot of Trados Studio menu options showing Close, Close All, Save, and Save Target As with their respective keyboard shortcuts.

The first option saves your work done in the Editor, while the second option only creates a target file with your translations, without saving your work.

Did you save your work (whether using this Save menu option or the default shortcut CTRL+S)?

Can you see your translated segments in the Editor?

when checking the TM there is no folder containing the segments translated

TMs have no folders. What do you mean? How do you check the TM?

  • I meant "Save Target as.." and it worked fine until yesterday morning.

I saved my work using "save" menu option not the shortcut.

And yes all my translated segments are in the Editor still but they won't appear in the target file anymore when I click on "save Target as...".

When I click on TM at the bottom left menu there is not the folder with the actual translation am working on.

    Am I doing something wrong?

  • Hi ,

Ok, that's fine. So when you open the target Excel file, there is nothing translated, right? Could it be that you are opening the wrong folder in Windows Explorer? Could you confirm that the time stamp in that folder is the time you saved the target file?

There is an alternative way of creating the target file, actually is the one I use most often, you can try it and let me know if it works:

Trados Studio screenshot showing the 'Generate Target Translations' option highlighted in the 'Finalize' dropdown menu.

    Follow the wizard.

Then when prompted to open the folder, click on the Yes button to open directly the folder with the target file:

Dialog box asking 'Would you like to open the folder containing your exported documents?' with a blurred out file path.

    Is this file right?

When I click on TM at the bottom left menu there is not the folder with the actual translation am working on

I understand now. This is the Translation Memories view and the TM used may or may not be here. TMs used in your project are in Project settings > Language Pairs > [All language pairs / your specific language combination] > Translation Memory and Automated Translation:

Close-up of the 'Project Settings' tab in Trados Studio's navigation menu.

Trados Studio 'Project Settings' window displaying Translation Memory and Automated Translation options for different language pairs.

If you want any specific TM in your Translation Memories view, you need to double-click it on Windows Explorer (or click the Open button at the top on Trados Studio and browse for that TM):

Trados Studio interface showing the 'Open' button highlighted in the 'Tasks' section.
