Trados 2022 won't import TMX

When trying to import a TMX file into an empty TM (or any TM) in Trados 2022, the segments are read but not imported:

Trados Studio import summary showing 1530 segments read but 0 imported into Translation Memory with no errors indicated.

This problem never arose for me using Trados 2021 (using the exact same procedure), and of course in Trados 2019 there was the option of converting a TMX file directly into an SDLTM.

I took a quick look this morning and I think the problem relates to this attribute:

    o-tmf="TW4Win 2.0 Format"

If you delete this from the header and try again it works.

I'm not sure why this is a problem and will need to ask a developer on Tuesday, but a good troubleshooting check is this:

    1. take an existing SDLM you have
    2. export to TMX
    3. compare the header

I have seen problems with this same attribute before in previous versions so it's surprising it worked in 2021, but nonetheless I'll find out what the problem is and let you know.

     fyi.

  • This seems to have worked, Paul - many thanks for your advice.

BTW, it would be great if the option to convert a TMX file into an SDLTM directly (available up to the 2019 version) was reinstated – it was a very handy feature.

Glad that resolved the problem for you.

The use of the "Trados Compatibility and Migration Power Pack" from the appstore should reinstate this so you can upgrade a TMX.

The bit that doesn't come back is being able to use the "Quick Upgrade" feature:

Trados Studio dialog box titled 'Upgrade Translation Memories' with a message stating translation memories need to be converted. Options for 'Quick Upgrade' and 'Custom Upgrade' are shown. A file named 'Amh bh r_GA - Copy.tmx' is listed for upgrade.
