Grammar Checker: MS Word checker >> Hangul Word Checker in Korean?

안녕하세요, 한글 맞춤법 관련해서 MS Word 맞춤법 체커를 아래 한글 맞춤법 체커로 쓸수는 없을까요?

한글의 띄어쓰기나 맞춤법은 아래 한글 2018 버전 부터는 자동 맞춤법 체커가 포함되어 있고, 훨씬 더 정확합니다.

Hi,

Would it be possible for me to set 'Hangul Word' as a grammar checker instead of MS Word checker?
Because in Korean, 'Hangul Word' is much more accurate than MS Word.

Hope to hear from anybody who has an idea.

    I'm afraid not.  The only options in Trados Studio are to use MS Word and Hunspell.  There is also no public API available for spell checking so even if there was an API available with "Hangul Word" it would require the Studio development team to add this.  I took a quick look around their website ( https://office.hancom.com/ ) to see if they do offer a public API but as far as I can see they do not offer this.  So on that basis, at the moment, it really looks like you have no option for this at all.

    I did wonder if LanguageTool would be a suitable alternative, but they don't seem to offer support for Korean either - https://dev.languagetool.org/languages

    Maybe Hunspell could be a solution for you?  Your feedback on what's possible already with hunspell would be useful and perhaps something could be done with this solution I found with a quick google search: https://github.com/spellcheck-ko/hunspell-dict-ko  That seems to have been last updated 5 months ago so perhaps a useful solution and does seem to support the creation of aff/dic files which Studio would need.

    In fact I just checked and we don't ship Korean Hunspell.  So, to simplify things I just downloaded the aff/dic files from the github site above which you'll find in this zip:

    ko-aff-dic-0.7.92.zip

    Perhaps you can try it and see how useful they are?  You didn't say what version of Studio you have so I just tested myself to see if they work at least.  I copied the aff/dic files to here:

    c:\Program Files (x86)\Trados\Trados Studio\Studio17\HunspellDictionaries\

    I renamed then as follows:

    ko_KR.dic
    ko_KR.aff

    And I added these lines into this file:

    c:\Program Files (x86)\Trados\Trados Studio\Studio17\HunspellDictionaries\spellcheckmanager_config.xml

    <language>
      <isoCode>ko-KR</isoCode>
      <dict>ko_KR</dict>
    </language>

    Then restarted Studio.  It does seem to work and recognises there is a dictionary there... but I'm not sure it's actually useful.  Despite there being some size to the files:

    File explorer showing two files named ko_KR.aff and ko_KR.dic with file sizes 11,094,418 and 2,862,610 respectively.

    The spell checker seems to stop at every word for me and cannot find them... but perhaps you'll see something I don't.  Could also be that these were created for use with linux, MAC operating systems in which case we can take a look and see whether we can do something with them.  Maybe worth a little effort as Hunspell is probably the easiest route at the moment..
