How can I stop Studio from going to the Termbase Viewer view every time I add a new term?

I'm running Studio 2017. Every time I use the ctrl + F2 shortcut to add a new term to the termbase, it opens the Termbase Viewer view. This causes problems for me, as my standard layout has it sharing a tabbed window with term recognition, meaning that I have to then switch back to the Term Recognition tab so that I can use the termbase with the next segment, and do so every time I add a term. 
 I've tried removing the Termbase Viewer tab from my layout (right-click --> close), but it comes back every time I add a new term. Currently, I've fudged a workaround by creating a tiny "dummy window" that contains only Termbase Viewer and that I can ignore to my heart's content, but this isn't entirely satisfactory, as I need to use the Termbase Viewer on occasion to edit existing terms, and it still takes up some screen real estate. Does anyone know a "proper" way of resolving this issue?

 With the 2017 version you are probably limited to the solutions you have found. This was an age old problem that was partially resolved with the addition of the Quick AddTerm feature in more recent versions of Studio. I say partially because there is still a sort of "shudder" when you add a term and the list refreshes, especially with large termbases. 
 But we also have the Rapid Add Term plugin for the 2021 and 2022 versions only that completely solves the issue and terms are added without any fuss: https://appstore.rws.com/plugin/35/ 
 I think the best person to know if there is a better solution is probably someone like Michael Beijer who I'm pretty sure struggled with this problem for years.

As Paul mentioned, I suspect you are screwed in Studio 2017. I would upgrade if at all possible, as many things have been fixed in / added to the latest version. Trados termbase recognition is still quite flaky (and probably always will be) but seems to work slightly better in the latest versions of Trados. 
 I currently use Trados Studio 2022, with a dual termbase system, as follows: 
 (1) I have a giant background termbase, in a very interesting little app made by Chinese company, called the &lsquo; RYSTUDIO Post-editing (MTPE) Package 2022 &rsquo;. It used to be called, &lsquo; RyS Termbase & Translation Assembler &rsquo;. Both are quite a mouthful, I know, but I basically use only the termbase feature in this app, as it has a cleverly designed approach to terminology that I have never come across in any CAT tool.  (2) I then usually also have a small project specific termbase, using Trados Studio's built in termbase system. This way, only project specific terms are marked with the red lines (so my src text is visually clearer), and all other remaining terminology matches are shown in the special RYSTUDIO terminology pane.
