Sorting files by name

I have approximately 20 different files within a project. The name of each begins with a number indicating its position in the overall text - something like:

1. Introduction
2. Definitions
3. People

etc. However, when I sort them by name in the "Files" view of the project, Trados fails to recognise that some of these are two-digit numbers - it sorts them in order of first digit, then second digit, so I'm left with something like:

1. Introduction
10. Places
11. Responsibilities
12. Times
[....]
19. Managers
2. Definitions
20. Fees

This is quite a nuisance, as it affects the order the files appear in when actually opened in editor, which also has knock-on effects for auto-population. Isn't there any way around it?

  • Hi Paul and Jerzy,

thanks for the suggestion Paul; I don't think I'd like to start altering the names as I'll be sending the xliffs back one by one and I don't know how that might affect their re-integration when the client, who created the project package, receives them. I appreciate the advice all the same!

It just seems like an obviously illogical way to set up the sorting function; as Jerzy says, Windows sorts files in actual numerical order and programmes like excel can too. It's hard to see why Trados would be different - surely this naming practice is a very common way to organise files for translation!
