List of the non-existing TMs displayed

Dear Studio users,

we are using version Studio 2021 and some of my colleagues have an unusual (from my point of view) problem.

As you can on the image below (sorry, the interface is in Spanish, but we all know this magic TM window) , the list of connected translation memories is really long. However, those highlighted with red rectangles do not even existe, they were deleted long ago.

The "Remove from List" option works only when obsolete memories are selected and removed. The next time the application is launch they reappear.

This happens only to some of the usersof our department, so it can have something to do with configuration:

Screenshot of Trados Studio 2021 showing a list of translation memories with some highlighted in red rectangles indicating they do not exist and were deleted long ago.

Thank you, everyone, in advance!!!!!

Such mess happens when using Studio with the translate single method approach.

I think pressing "Reset to defaults" in this view should resolve the problem. Other possibility is to declare other Project template to be default, remove the previous default one and import a fresh one from here: C:\Program Files (x86)\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\Studio16\ProjectTemplates

To avoid such problems in the future, use Project approach instead of Single document or define language pairs and add the corresponding TMs only there.

On a side note: an improvement in files and folders management here is really necessary.

  • True! Most of my colleagues prefer to translate "single documents", however, I always create Projects and don´ t have this "mess", as you said:).

Honestly, I did not know that translating single documents is the reason for that . Will search for that "Reset to defaults" option now.

As for the "folders management", we have one shared folder on a local server, and there is only one memory for each pair of languages. So I have no idea why these "file names" reappear, because if you activate any of them , the " memory does not exist" error appears.

    Thank you for answering, Jerzy!

Oh, shared folder... Well, the names with "copy" will be most probably a result of this. Someone has stored the TM locally, then it got synchronized and so on. Studio is not really suitable to share resources via cloud.

If you advise your colleagues to create language pairs here:

Trados Studio Options window showing Language Pairs section with an arrow pointing to the 'Add' button and text 'add language pair here'.

    Then go there:

Trados Studio Options window with Language Pairs expanded showing German to Polish pair and a highlighted message 'From All Language Pairs'.

Popup window with a warning message 'Do you want to copy the translation memories and automated translation servers from All Language Pairs? This may overwrite your previous settings for this language pair.' with options 'Ja' and 'Nein'.

Then add the TM for this very language pair here. Do so for all necessary language pairs.

When opening a document for translation and selecting the corresponding language pair, Studio will show you ONLY the one TM from there. NO necessity to change any setting anymore. This way it is much simpler to keep order in your work.

Note: when doing this, the TM field in All language pairs MUST remain EMPTY! You may NOT add any TM there anymore, as otherwise nothing will work. Studio hates chaos!
