Translating InCopy articles with Trados Studio

Hello,

I wonder what's the best way to translate InCopy articles with Trados Studio. So far, I've tested the following:

- PDF: too many line breaks

- Text only PDF : issues when merging segments, letter G converted to fi in Studio

- idml : some linebrakes, too; not possible to export from InCopy directly (need to ask Layout team)

What's your experience, did you find a smart way to handle translations with InCopy?

Thanks, Aurélie

You wrote "need to ask the layout team"—this is the only chance you have. Otherwise work with the IDML, trying to merge segments with no tags. When merging segments, test each time, if you can produce target. From my experience this is not really problematic in InDesign files, provided there are no anchor tags like picture or similar. If you cannot merge and the translation does not match the source (you need to do crosstranlation due to the needs of your language), do not confirm the segment to not polute your TM.

InCopy will bring you next to nothing, as the text structure is identical to INDD/IDML.
