Two ways: 1. select all text (Crtl + A, in Acrobat Reader) and paste it to Word. Then Word will tell you the word count. 2. Buy a good converter frome PDF to Word. Then Word will tell you the word count, and you will have a editable file.
What I want to point out is that everybody used this technic. In Abbyy, I can convert into editable by selecting the right language.
We can analyze the editable PDF by means of the Analysis utility in Trados and we can get an analysis report. I was asking how we could do this quickly.
I was asking how we could do this quickly.
You could create a project just for an analysis. Then whenever you get a file you need an analysis for just add it to the exiting analysis project that contains your TMs and run an analysis batch task.
Or maybe use the Trados Analyse app from the appstore that allows you to simply select a file and analyse it.
Or even use a separate tool such as Practicount perhaps?
I also think the solution to your original question from Gonzalo Pradera was a good one. You didn't ask how to do it quickly, you just asked how to see a wordcount before starting a translation.

I am using this method;
1. Make pdf file editable in Abbyy
2. Open Trados > Translate Single file
3. There is already a plugin in Trados, Target Word count
4. Batch Tasks > Analyze file
5. View files > Lower Pane
6. Analyze Files Report
I am using this method;
Well, you have now asked
how we could do this quickly.
That would do it too.
