Hello,
If I'm translating a new single document and am using an existing translation memory and a previously confirmed translation segment pops up, but I want to improve that translation, does my new version replace the previously confirmed translation automatically? If not, how can I ensure it does?

By default newly amended segments are what get saved in your TM after you confirm them of course.
You can run a batch task at the end of your project and run "Update Main TM" for safe measure.
Its only when you specifically say "add new TU" will both versions be saved.
By the sounds of your post - this was not done so I trust you and your TM's will be ok.
