Segmentation Rule

Hi everyone!

Could you please let me know how can I configure segmentaion rules so that I can use multiple rules at once:

tab, soft return, semi-colon, etc.

I'm asking because I've noticed it has been working one at a time. When tab works, soft return doesnt.... and so on

I use Trados 2022

Thanks in advance

Rony

  • Hi

Segmentation rules are for the most part managed in TM's
Segmentation rules can also be managed as part of open source file parser rules - as in the case for XML (as an example)

What file type does your question relate to?
What your describing sounds a bit specific but I am lacking context.

As the screen shot below shows, you can create a regular expression that will accommodate tab, soft return, semi-colon (all in one) but then the expression maybe too specific and wont have any positive impact for any alternative variations

Trados Studio screenshot showing the Segmentation Rules window with Sentence based segmentation selected. A rule for 'Terminating punctuation' is highlighted with options to add a new rule. An 'Advanced View' button is outlined in red indicating a possible error or warning.

I have never known of segmentation respecting one but consequently another - however it does come back down to specific and clear context

    I can appreciate some strings are complex such as this one: <a href="${CustomContext.ChartDownloadLink}" target="_blank" style="color: #000000; text-decoration: underline;">Learn more</a>.</i>
But is also a good example of where the TM is less helpful when it comes to segmentation but more down to file type and parser

Hopefully you can give more context / examples and we can help you further
