.tmx file not imported in translation memory although no error is shown

Dear All,

I have an interesting case on my hands and no idea what is causing the problem.

I have a big EU transaltion memory containing dozens of EU documents. I have aligned another Resolution and I am trying to import the .tmx file. Here are the different screens with options that I use:

Trados Studio TMX Import Options screen showing options for filter, unknown fields, and scenario selection with no errors displayed.

Trados Studio General Import Options screen with checkboxes for import preferences and options for handling target segments with no errors visible.

Trados Studio Import completion screen showing a TMX file named 'UK-BG Resolution (EU) 2022-1702.tmx' with 117 segments read, 0 imported, 0 invalid, and 'Recomputing fuzzy index statistics' completed.

I have checked the the contents of the .tmx file are not present in the translation memory, that is I have not imported this specific Resolution before. No errors are reported and yet, no segments are imported.

Any ideas?

Best regards,

Pavel

  • Hi ,

First thing to come to my mind: Have you checked the language combination of the TMX and the TM? They both should match?

You can check the language combination of the TMX if you open it with an Editor. In notepad++ would look like this (en-GB as Source and es-ES as Target languages):

Screenshot of a TMX file opened in an editor showing language codes en-GB for English and es-ES for Spanish.

  • Hi Jesus,

    Thank you for your suggestion.

I have just checked with the GB-BG variant of the accepting TM and the result is the same. From experience, having a different variant of English (US, GB) in the accepting TM has never precluded Trados from importing a .tmx file. This is how my four EU translation memories (US-BG, BG-US, GB-BG, BG-GB) have grown so much over the years while using the same EU documents which are not offered in the US variant anyway.

So, there must be another culprit but I am not sure what it is.

    Best regards,

    Pavel
