Data source is an unexpected token

Hi there,

Just as I was trying to export a file I worked on all night due in the morning, I got this error message: "FAILED TO SAVE TARGET CONTENT. DATA SOURCE IS AN UNEXPECTED TOKEN. EXPECTING WHITE SPACE. LINE 1 POSITION 93

Under Origin, it says FILE WRITING, i.e., this is not a tag verifier issue as I took care of that and all the tags were fine.

Not being able to export the file, I ended up copying and pasting my translation on to Word and then painstakingly copied and pasted my translation to the source document, which took me hours to do because the document was full of footnotes. Since this was a rush job and I was running against the clock, Trados really let me down this time. Does anyone know what to do if this happens to me again?

    Hi Eduardo,

    I had something similar happen with a Word document. I was able to identify that there was content in one of the footers that was preventing me saving to Target.

    It wasn't my problem because the client had sent me a package and wanted the SDLXLIFF delivered to them, but I wanted to save to Target for my own information.

    The client ended up redoing the translation after having pasted the content without footers to a new Word document and processing that with a new memory that the first translation had been cleaned to.

    It is always a good idea to try saving to Target before translating documents with footnotes/headers & footers, macros and such like, just to be sure that it will work. It's a lot easier and saves time in the long run.

    ... or to run the Batch Task "Pseudo-Translate". This has the advantage that it takes into account all tags and is even customisable. If it succeeds, you know that you will be able to save the target (unless you introduce a tag error in the translation:-)).
