Dear colleagues,
is there any shortcut key for changing the status of a segment to Translated? On some occasions I need to leave the target segment blank and don´t want the original content be copied to the output file.
Thanks in advance!

I guess you could install this plugin?

Might be handy for you since we are indeed missing keyboard shortcuts for these actions.

I just want to flag this up as something I would really appreciate.
The situation arises if you merge two segments, then the new segment gets changed to Draft status. This then creates problems if you are using an MT provider like GT because then you get the [segment already translated...source not re-sent] warning and it will not retranslate the merged segment. You have to manually change the status to "Not Translated" and then re-request the translation (using CTRL+SHFT+T), otherwise it will not comply. It's a big time-waster when you have files that just weren't segmented properly but you want to merge all the errant TUs.
So please can we have native shortcuts for segment status!
If I understand you well, the segment is in Draft mode because it was first machine translated (before the merging step), am I right? If so, you can do the following:
- Set that first segment as Not translated (the shorcut is ALT+DELETE, very fast).
- Merge that segment with the following segment(s).
- Then the new merged segment should be autommatically machine translated. Does it work?
Alternatevely, you can disable temporarily MT while you merge the segments you wish in the whole file. Once done, enable MT to start translating.
If it’s a Word document with plenty of extra returns, I’d prepare that document in Word before opening it in Trados Studio.
Ahhh! Good call, yes, do you know, I think I had forgotten that shortcut, it works for this! Yes, it's in draft mode because it's already machine-translated the first half of the segment before I could merge them.
This is actually a completely workable solution as I don't need the half-translated segment, I can just ALT+DELETE it.
And yes, ideally I would get rid of all those extra returns before importing into Trados but I always miss some, it's quite hard to do automatically, even though I do have some wildcard searches for Word that can fix a lot of them.
Thanks again!
