Please, make the New Project wizard user-friendlier

Dear All,

Every time I have to set up a new project, the way the New Project wizard works make me feel there is room for improvement:

1. When a project is created from a Client template, for some reason the dedicated Client project directory is not suggested as the Location Path, and instead a parent (general) directory is pre-filled:

Trados Studio New Project wizard showing 'Use Settings from' dropdown with 'London Translation Services Limited' selected, and a pre-filled Location Path not suggesting the dedicated Client project directory.

Would it be too much to expect that a Client template should also have a record of where projects for this Client are kept directorywise?

2. Although the Client project directory location is not recorded in the Client template (and this parent directory with the Client's name does not change over time), a parameter that changes with every project is actually recorded:

Trados Studio Project Description section with 'Due Date' field suggesting an old date instead of the current date.

Why suggest automatically the date of the first project instead of, say, prefill today's date?

3. Another parameter that is not likely to change often – the name of the AutoSuggest dictionary used for this Client – is not recoreded either forcing me to go through the motions every time:

Trados Studio AutoSuggest Dictionaries page with no dictionaries listed or pre-filled for the selected language pair English (United Kingdom) to Bulgarian.

Why would that not be recorded and prefilled automatically?

Best regards,

Pavel

  • Would it be too much to expect that a Client template should also have a record of where projects for this Client are kept directorywise?

    Of course not.

Trados Studio Project Template Settings window showing 'General PL-DE' template with a specified project location path 'Q:BusinessClients'.

It's already there... In every single template.

As for the ASDs... I do not use them since fragment matching has been introduced. ASD is static and can be huge, but the use of it is very limited in my opinion. This said, please make sure you have added the ASDs in the customer project template before you start creating the project. This resources should be remembered as any other resource within the template.
