Not sure if you can see these videos, but my problem is ...
I thought (before) that exact matches with the TM were automatically validated.
Here I click CTRL ENTER and for next similar segment values, I again have to validate manually (CTRL+ENTER).
I thought these segments identical to the TM were validated automatically. Or is it only if the target is blank?
Can't seem to find anything in the settings on this

I am not sure, but it seems to me you have never taken a look into the AP settings. And this is really worth it:
There is no "optimal setting", it depends on the kind of your work. But using all these settings you can achieve whatever you want. They give you the power to confirm and overwrite segments with or without notification. Just take closer look at these and find your own settings.

I should have said I looked at these settings, but nothing seems to make it do what I want to auto overwrite filled segments with TM value
If you wish your segments confirmed after the AP action, you have to select the corresponding option. With your settings all autopropagated segments will remain in status draft and will need to be confirmed when you approach those. You also selected to propagate only forwards, but not backwards.
As I said, there are numerous options. These are highly depending on what do you want to achieve and what kind of job you have to perform. For example job with massive repetition quotes (I've had 200,000+ words with over 90% of repetitions) you need completely different settings and way of working as for typical technical manual with roughly 10% repetitions.
