Suggestion for improvement of track changes functionality in Studio 2022

Hi Studio team,

when I open two or several documents in Studio 2022 which I need to proofread in Studio using track changes, the activated track changes function is always deactivated when switching between the documents. Hence I always have to make sure to reactivate the track changes function again each time after switching to another document. This is quite time-consuming. I had two documents open at the same with track cnages because I needed to compare them while proofreading as they included partly exactly the same text/segments.

It would be great if the track changes function stays activated for the respective document I activated it for and is only deactivated when closing the document or Studio or when I deactivate it manually.

Thank you and kind regards,

Claudia

I guess that opening them in Review mode would solve the issue, but some of my clients prefer that I work in Translation mode

Pardon, but how on earth your customer can prefer this? This is not their business, not at all! Please do not allow our customer to rein our souls. You are working with the tool they request, how come they to tell you how to work with it? This is solely YOUR (OUR) business. It is enough, that the customer invent a new "perfect" tool nearly every day, request discounts and who knows what more. But this? I'd never would care about such a dumb request.

  • Hi Jerzy, thank you for your input! I actually also prefer this method and, as you already said, this is solely my business and is not the point of this post. The point is that, in older versions of Trados, the Track changes function would not turn off automatically when moving from one document to another. This is, however, happening in the new version and is a bit impractical.
I'm sorry if you have trouble with demanding customers and my post upset you in some way, especially considering that it was not directed at you, but at someone from RWS who might be interested in looking into this issue.

    Best,
    Maja

Sorry for being a bit upset, but unfortunately, the experience from past few years with customer expectations, especially in terms of CAT usage, are fully disillusioning...

Coming back to your problem, what do you mean with track changes being switched off between documents? Do you check documents one by one instead of opening them via virtual merge? And are you aware, that you can switch track changes on and off by a keyboard shortcut? Default is CTRL+ALT+F10. Takes no time...
