When trying to analyze xml-files in Trados Studio 2014 I get the message: can't make a file that already exists.

When trying to analyze xml-files in Trados Studio 2014  I get the message: can't make a file that already exists. I can translate the file, but when trying to generate the target file, the same message (The file exists) appears and no target file is made. The strange thing is that I've been editing xml-files for a long time in Studio 2014 and there were no problems. Then all of a sudden these messages appeared. Help is much appreciated!!

The message doesn't appear for all files:

  • Hi Astrid,

Have you checked the source files in the Project to see whether you have the original files? It could be that if the xml files were too large when the project was created then they were not embedded in the sdlxliff files that were created. This would prevent you from creating target files, but not from translating them. Whoever created the original project with the source files will be able to create the targets.

    Maybe that's the reason?

  • Hi Paul,
Thank you for your answer. Yesterday a support guy from SDL spent 2,5 hours trying to figure out what was wrong. It now seems that there's a problem with Windows: .net framework. I made the project myself from the xml files that the client sent me, so then I should be able to create targets too. I'll try to get .net framework fixed today. See if that helps.
  • This problem was solved. It appears that Studio generates a whole lot of temporary files when generating projects. If you delete these temporary files, the error message no longer appears. Click the Windows-button on the left hand side (Start), type %tmp% in the field 'Look for programs and files' and press Enter. This will take you to the directory User - AppData - Local - Temp. Delete the stuff in this directory and the problem is solved.
