.msg translated files still show source language (not translated one) and no format at all

I have two questions for this same problem:

  1. I have translated some .msg files (that are templates), saved the translated texts into new files and when opening every one of them, the text is not translated, it still shows the source text. What is happening? (I have tried to save the translated text into any different format, but that is not an option in Trados Studio 2021).
  2. The translated file is in plain format, is there any way to keep the source format of the text? [for Email files, my set-up shows "Html Embedded Content 5 2.0.0.0" and when no html in the text "Embedded Content Plain Text v 1.0.0.0"]

Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

  • Hi Paul!

Thanks for your quick answer! I am both relieved and frustrated at the same time that this usually works...

Answering your questions, I did the same steps you suggested, so "Save As" (tried just adding the target language code to the file name, tried by changing the name of the file completely) into a different folder of the original, opened those target files (100% sure that they were the target ones and not the original), but nothing changes...

And usually I have no problems with the format as Studio perfectly reproduces it in the Target file, but this time is not just the format, is not a template anymore, it is more like a closed message... strange.

One extra step I did after saving the target file was adding it to an email, as an attached piece, to send it back to my "client". What happens to you if you do that? Does it remain in the target language and respects the template format? Or does this changes the language and the format?

As in my company, we have very strict policies about sharing files publicly, I am checking with our Security Team what needs to be done in order to share this test file with you, so I will update my question once I have an answer.

    Thanks again!
