Object reference not set to an instance of an object

Question

know that this is a frequently-encountered problem and have tried the solutions involving resetting the window layout and deleting the settings XML files. (kb articles 4983 and 4984) None of these work. I have a brand new installation of 2015 and cannot use it. My project does, however, work in 2014. Are there any other suggestions? 
 Reset window layout - does not work 
 Delete Settings.xml etc. - does not work 
 Completely new install - does not work 
 I am at a loss

I'm glad to hear that a new project works for you. If everything is as it should be, any project created in Studio 2014 works in Studio 2015. 
 
However if for any of a number of potential reasons a project won't open in whichever version, the first test to perform and if it works the quickest way to resolve the problem is to create a new project, if you have the necessary components, i.e. the source file, TM, TB etc. 
 
Even if it's a package you've received without a source file in its original format, it is usually possible to create a project using the sdlxliff/s. 
I tend to run the project as 'Analyze only' in that context. I do it a lot, if I have multiple projects that are similar and want to group them together for consistency's sake.

There is a known issue around this error if all penalties in the project are set to '0' - please can you check to make sure this is not the case. If they are all set to '0' then change one which does not apply to the project to '1' and try again.
