To be honest I don't really understand what you have said here.  Can you provide a clear example, with steps I can follow to try and reproduce.  Pretend you are writing the steps for someone who has not seen this software before.

Here is an example.

I am in the Editor view. The File menu is currently selected in Trados Studio 2022 (V 17.0.6.14902), so no buttons are displayed. I am currently doing a translation so I click the Home menu to display the Home buttons (Project Settings, Batch Tasks, Formatting buttons, QuickInsert buttons, etc.).

As soon as I have clicked any button (it doesn't matter which one), the File menu is automatically selected again and the button bar disappears. So I need to click the Home menu again to display the Home buttons again.

("has the focus" is a throwback to my programming days and means "is the selected option".)

I think the ribbon is unpinned... Could you click on the pin icon on the right hand side?

Thanks so much for your help! Yes, I clicked the pin icon and this now leaves whichever menu I select still selected after I click a button on it.

I see that the highlight (white text on a blue background) is still left on the File menu, by the way.

(Just as a matter of interest, how would I unpin the ribbon again should I need to do so? I can't find an option, and the word "unpin" is not in the Help.)

Instead of the pin icon, there is an arrow icon pointing upwards:

Alternatively, you can use CTRL+F1, and this works in all applications with a ribbon, such as Excel, Word, Outlook…

Last, there is a mouse shortcut to pin/unpin the ribbon which is double-clicking any tab of the ribbon.
