If you have \n strings in the Word document, then you need to escape the backslash character (\ in regex is \\):

Then, in order to get rid of these \n, you need to select Exclude option in the Advanced button:

Is this what you needed?

Last, you can speed up the process using the Browse and Preview buttons at the bottom. In that way you can quickly preview if the tag definition rules are working so far, and if you need to tune them up.

I know it's \\ to escape \ in regex as \ alone has a trigger function in regex.

As I wrote, they are correctly changed to tags so the regex is working but the system does not change segmentation of the string. It's just a tag replacing the \n or other line break character I searched for in original text, but nothing else happens.

What does the option "Text lines can be wrapped after the tag" do, as I checked this one? To me this sounds like the trigger which would make Trados put a segmentation/line break after the tag, but apparently it does not.

Why use Exclude, is that mandatory to get a new segment? To me this does not make any sense.

Edit: OK, that really seems to do the trick but it does not make any sense at all, at least to me. Could you please enlighten me about this? ;)

Glad it helped!

Exclude means that the tag won’t appear in the segment. If it’s a leading or trailing place holder it’s easy to remove them. But if they are in the middle of the text, then, if you think about it, the only way to remove the excluded tag is to split the text in 2 segments (and then remove the leading/trailing tag).

I've been looking for that part of the documentation for hours yesterday and in the past. It would be good if Studio would directly lead to that page if you open the help via the according window. :( Even Google with the exact wording and "documentation" Trados Studio did not lead there.

Tooltips when hovering the options in Trados would certainly also help a lot. ^^

F1 key worked for me in my Trados Studio 2022. I think I needed to go one screen back and Trados just opened the link I posted.
