Hidden text

Hello!

I am working (in Trados) on a normal Word file and I just realized that I have a lot of segments with text that is NOT visible in the Word file, some sort of "hidden text" behind a table?

Since this text must NOT be translated, how can I set Trados not to read it, not to process it and not to count it?

Thanks for any help!

  • Hello Valeria,

To prevent Trados Studio from processing and counting the hidden text in your Word file, follow these steps:

Step 1: Open the Word file outside of Trados Studio.

Step 2: Press "Ctrl + H" to open the "Find and Replace" dialog.

Step 3: Click on "More >>" to reveal additional options.

Step 4: Click on the "Format" button at the bottom and select "Font."

Step 5: In the "Font" dialog, check the "Hidden" box under "Effects" and click "OK."

Step 6: In the "Find what" field, enter "^?" (without quotes) and leave the "Replace with" field empty.

Step 7: Click "Replace All." This will apply the "Hidden" attribute to all hidden text in the document.

Step 8: Save the Word file and close it.

Step 9: Open Trados Studio and go to "File" > "Options" > "File Types" > "Microsoft Word 2007-2016."

Step 10: Under "Common," uncheck the box next to "Extract hidden text."

Step 11: Click "OK" to save the changes.

Step 12: Open the Word file in Trados Studio, and the hidden text should no longer be processed or counted.

Please note that this method will only work if the hidden text is formatted as "Hidden" in the Word file. If the text is hidden in another way, such as behind a table, you may need to manually remove or adjust the formatting in the Word file before importing it into Trados Studio.

I hope this helps! If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
