Number Formatting

Hello,

do you know where I can find the settings for number formatting under Studio 2014?

We need it for decimals and digit grouping symbols. This is a language specific setting (space, dots, nothing?). There are also cases in which a language has it in different manners (or the client just wants it differently). This is why we need to change this. I cannot find this setting.Thank you for your help.

Regards,

Miriam

We actually had an internal competition last year to come up with an idea that development would do and a group of us actually build a demo of exactly what you are saying.. and more!  We didn't win :-(

It's good to hear that my ideas are not that off... ;-)
And it's not good to hear that such logical idea lost the battle... It then opens a question "why?! what was THAT problematic on that?!"
I belive that even putting the ideas list instead of the basically useless Latest News (of course with appropriate title, like Improvements Ideas... or maybe Studio Vox Populi ;-) ) would do...

But perhaps it means there is no actual will at certain levels to have users' ideas "polluting" the development plans?

This is not true.  Of course we do many things that users don't ask for... users don't always know what the best way forward is...

Agree. But still, people need to see that their voice has some power, that their ideas DO get implemented in a reasonable timeframe.
If they don't see that, you can't really expect them to keep coming up with ideas forever, spending their time with voting for ideas, etc.

Not at all.  The competition was across all of the SDL products and there were a lot of fantastic ideas, so we just didn't make it this time.  There's always the opportunity to do it through the appstore team, and we may pick it up if we get through all the things ahead of it.

It's easy to see SDL as the company that only does SDL Trados Studio.  But we're not and one of the things that has consumed much of the resource we have for a while now has been integration efforts between products, trying to rewrite lots of work under the hood to simplify and make development easier and faster in the future.  You don't see any of this so I don't expect you to know, but I do think we are very close to a completely different kind of development organisation in the near future.  Getting all these things to work well together is no small task.

Ah, that's a different story then.
Perhaps more openness to users would help to ease the frustration then. That's what this idea is also about.
