File-based termbase not loading if VPN is on.

When I try to add a term, the error "Object reference not set to an instance of an object." appears, and "No open termbase" is shown, even though a valid file-based termbase is shown in the project settings.

I'm using Trados Studio 2022 - 17.0.6.14902, with only file-based translation memories and termbases.

I have confirmed that the problem is related to the VPN. If I turn off the VPN (McAfee LiveSafe VPN), the termbase is correctly loaded and accessible.

Since I am using ONLY file-based resources and not server-based ones, why is the VPN causing problems? What data is being sent secretly to RWS? I use only file-based translation memories and termbases because my clients DEMAND it. If translation data is being sent to RWS, it would violate confidentiality agreements with them. If this cannot be solved, I will have to stop using TRADOS, and request a refund.

  • Additional information:

Now I'm more confused. It seems that the problem occurs only if the VPN is on when Trados Studio is started. After Studio has started, switching on the VPN does not cause problems and the termbases work correctly.

Also, being disconnected from the internet (such as in airplane mode) also does not cause problems. So it's not an issue of sending data, it's just an issue of an unnecessary check during program startup of whether a VPN is being used.

I would have thought that this problem would have been found during quality testing ...

Please correct it in a future version.
