How to copy a translation from a word file into a trados project?

Hello everyone

I have a very simple question, yet it seems very difficult to get a sensible answer to it in any knowledge base, which is why I'm asking directly now:

I have an open Trados project with no translations in the target language column. Now I want to fill that column with an existing translation from a word file or simply from the clipboard. What is the simplest way to achieve that?

Thanks in advance for your help.

The easiest way is to align the source word file with your target word file, and update it into a translation memory.  Then just pre-translate your files in your project.

    But if by this:

I want to fill that column with an existing translation from a word file or simply from the clipboard.

You mean you have found a single sentence for example, then you would just paste it into the target segment.  I know that seems obvious but I'm not totally clear on where you're coming from or how many existing translations you have for this project.

    Copy & Paste.

You can copy more text than is needed for the current segment, then select the superfluous part in Studio, press CTRL+X and then confirm the segment. In the next segment you press CTRL+V and do the same. This saves time for switching between apps.
