Trados doesn't work with MS Word Spell checker

Hello!

Since the last Trados update a few days ago, MS Word Spell Checker doesn't work anymore. I cannot select it, since I receive the following error:

Unable to select the spell checker extension. Unable to locate if Microsoft Word is installed on this machine.

I tried the following:

upgraded from Office 2010 to Office Pro 2021

repaired Office

repaired Trados

reinstalled Trados (by uninstalling, deleting all remaining files and then reinstalling)

enabled macros in Word

run Trados as administrator

I browsed all the related topics and I think I tried all the ideas. Anything else I can try? Everything worked fine before the update, with Office 2010.

  • Hi Petruta,

Since your Normal.dotm file is empty and deleting it didn't resolve the issue, you can try the following

Step 1: Close Trados Studio and any Microsoft Office applications.

Step 2: Open Microsoft Word and go to File > Options > Trust Center > Trust Center Settings.

Step 3: In the Trust Center, click on "Trusted Locations" and then "Add new location."

Step 4: Add the following location: C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\INetCache\Content.Word. Make sure to replace %username% with your actual Windows username.

Step 5: Click "OK" to save the changes and close Microsoft Word.

    Step 6: Restart your computer.

Step 7: Open Trados Studio and go to File > Options > Editor > Spelling. Try selecting the MS Word Spell Checker again.

    Regards,

       John
