Might be "Retain Studio target comments in target file" needs to be checked.

However, this solution works on a project-by-project basis. Can it also be set *globally* (i.e. for all projects), so that I don't need to change it manually each time I work on a new project?

Of course!  If you have it project by project then it's because of how you are working.  The solution is the same, but you need to have this setting in the project templates you work with when you create a project.  That way every time you create a project it will already be set.
