Trados 21, Check Spelling, language not supported

Hi

I am using Studio 2021, I usually translate into British English, but I'm currently translating into US English, and in this project the spell checker won't work, the Check Spelling is greyed out, language not supported. I have tried both Hunspell and MS Word, and I also have US English installed as a proofing language in MS word. When I check Hunspell, and go to custom dictionaries, I can only see one dictionary, CUSTOM.dic. Spellcheck works fine for my other projects into British English. 

Any ideas please?

    It is, thanks for replying, it's been something of a saga.  

    The project was supposed to have language pair DE-EN US, but the project manager said that for an unknown reason, Studio refused to recognise the source files as German, so they set the source language as English US, and the target language as English US (minor outlying islands). This seems to be the reason I can't use spellcheck. A separate package in the same project was set successfully as DE-EN US, and this has no problem with the spellcheck. 

    I'm currently trying various workarounds as the project manager says it can't be fixed. 

    Any ideas gratefully accepted!
