Opening and autopropagating files at once.

I had to open a lot of files, before they would autopropagate. The PM told me later: "if you open all the files at once, or a bunch of them if you can’t open them all, the translation autopropagates to the rest of the files that are the same, so you don’t have to waste so much time opening the files one by one." I could not find instructions to open many "files at once". How can it be done? (The image here is from the completed work.)

It’s like selecting files in Windows Explorer:

    • Select the 1st item of the list with the mouse.
    • Press and hold the SHIFT key.
    • Select the last item of the list with the mouse.
All items are selected and ready to be opened.
    • You can now release the SHIFT key. Smiley

  • Hello,

Based on your query, it seems you want to know how to open multiple files at once in Trados Studio for auto-propagation. Here are the steps:

Step 1: Open your project in Trados Studio.

Step 2: In the 'Files' view, select all the files you want to open. You can do this by clicking on the first file, then hold down the 'Shift' key and click on the last file. This will select all files in between. If the files are not in sequence, hold down the 'Ctrl' key and click on each file you want to select.

Step 3: Once all the files are selected, you can either press 'Enter' or right-click on one of the selected files and choose 'Open for Translation'. This will open all the selected files in the Editor view.

Step 4: Now, you can start translating. The auto-propagation feature will apply your translations to all instances of the same segment across all the open files.

Please note that if you want to open all files at the same time but as separate documents, select them and press 'Ctrl+Enter'. They will open in separate tabs in the Editor pane.

Remember, the QuickMerge function in Trados Studio allows you to handle multiple files as one during operations like Find and Replace, AutoPropagation, QA checking, and terminology verification. However, this does not mean the files are merged elsewhere. If you want to export them as one document, you must merge them physically during project creation.

I hope this helps! If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.
