Ribbon display mode setting getting permanently lost

Hi community,

Does anyone have the same problem and/or a clue to the cause/solution?

The ribbon bar in Trados Studio is showing as "TabsOnly" by default every time I switch from one view to another.

If I choose the "AutoHide" setting instead, it gets lost every time I switch views and resets itself back to "TabsOnly".

What's going wrong?

Thanks for any help.

  • Hello Thomas,

It seems like you're experiencing an issue with the Ribbon Display Mode in Trados Studio. Here's how you can try to resolve it:

Step 1: Open Trados Studio and navigate to the Ribbon Bar.

Step 2: Click on the Home button to display the Ribbon.

Step 3: Go to the right end of the menu where you will see a pin image. This is the "Expand the Ribbon" option.

Step 4: Click on this pin image to enable it. This should keep the Ribbon in the "AutoHide" mode.

Step 5: If the setting is not saved, you might need to reset your user profile settings. To do this, go to "File" > "Setup" > "Reset User Profile Settings". Please note that this will reset all your personalized settings in Trados Studio.

If the issue persists, it might be a bug and you should consider updating your Trados Studio to the latest version. You can check for updates within the application.

    I hope this helps!

Click on this small icon on the right top corner of Trados Studio and select Show Tabs and Commands:

Trados Studio screenshot showing a dropdown menu with options: Auto-hide Ribbon, Show Tabs, and Show Tabs and Commands. The Show Tabs and Commands option is highlighted.

    This should make it.

  • Hi Jesús,

    Thanks for your kind answer.

The procedure you recommended always worked perfectly until the penultimate update. Since then, Studio no longer "remembers" the selected setting. The latest SR1 update has not changed this. When you choose a setting for the ribbon, it is saved in the file "C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Trados\Trados Studio\Studio17\UserSettings.xml" for example as "<Setting Id="RibbonDisplayMode">TabsOnly</Setting>". But here should be the value "AutoHide". However, this value is not entered when selecting the setting for the ribbon in the UI in the normal way you suggested, but it always stays at the value "TabsOnly", no matter what you select.

    So, what now?

    Best

I have the same version as you and I don’t have problems.

I’ve checked the XML you mentioned above and maybe you already knew it, but just in case, please note that settings changes are not saved to this XML until Trados Studio is closed. I mention it because maybe you were expecting changes re. the ribbon are saved in real time to that XML, but it’s not the case.

To fix the issue, you can try closing Trados Studio, and then rename that XML. This is part of the reset procedure mentioned here: https://gateway.sdl.com/apex/communityknowledge?articleName=000001417. You can try…
