Hello,
The "Split Segment" option might be grayed out due to a few reasons. Here are the steps to troubleshoot this issue:
Step 1: Ensure that you have opened the document for translation. The "Split Segment" option is only available when a document is open in the Editor view.
Step 2: Check if the segment you are trying to split is confirmed. You cannot split a confirmed segment. If it is confirmed, you need to unconfirm it first. You can do this by right-clicking on the segment and selecting "Change segment status" > "Unconfirm".
Step 3: Make sure that the option "Allow editing of source text in segments" is enabled. You can find this option in the Project Settings. If it's not enabled, you won't be able to split the segment.
Step 4: If the segment is still not splitting, it might be due to the specific file type settings. Some file types do not allow segment splitting. In this case, you might need to convert the file to a different format that allows segment splitting.
If you've followed these steps and the issue persists, it might be a more complex issue that requires further investigation.

I think I found a quirk that could be causing this. I place my cursor directly behind the semicolon in the sentence, as that is where I want the split to occur. However, every time I right-click for the context menu, the cursor jumps to the end of the segment. So Trados Studio will not suggest the "split segment" command with the cursor at the end of the sentence.
I don't know what to do about that.
Hello,
It seems like you're experiencing a specific issue where the cursor jumps to the end of the segment when you right-click. This could be a software glitch or a feature of the specific file type you're working with. Here's what you can do:
Step 1: Try using the keyboard shortcut to split the segment. Place your cursor where you want the split to occur and press the keys "Ctrl+T". This should split the segment at the cursor's location.
Step 2: If the keyboard shortcut doesn't work, try to change the file type. Some file types have specific settings that might cause this issue. Convert the file to a different format that allows segment splitting and try again.
Step 3: If the issue persists, it might be a software glitch. Try to update your Trados Studio to the latest version. You can check for updates within the application.
Remember, the "Split Segment" option will only work if the segment is not confirmed and if the option "Allow editing of source text in segments" is enabled in the Project Settings.
If none of these steps resolve the issue, it might be a more complex problem that requires further investigation.

I tried Step 1, but when I press "Ctrl+T" all that happens is that the cursor jumps to the very front of the segment and the segment is then marked as confirmed.
I don't know how to try Step 2. How do I convert this .pptx file to another format (for instance, .docx?)?
(Step 3 is something I already did yesterday.)
Hello,
I'm sorry to hear that you're still having trouble. Let's try to address each issue:
Step 1: The "Ctrl+T" command is supposed to split the segment at the cursor's location. If it's not working as expected, it might be due to a software glitch or a feature of the specific file type you're working with.
Step 2: To convert a .pptx file to a .docx file, you can use a software like Microsoft Office or an online converter. Here's a general guide:
1. Open the .pptx file in Microsoft PowerPoint.
2. Go to "File" > "Save As".
3. Choose the location where you want to save the file.
4. In the "Save as type" dropdown menu, select "Word Document (*.docx)".
5. Click "Save".
Please note that converting a PowerPoint file to a Word document might change the layout and formatting of the content. Also, not all features in PowerPoint are available in Word, so some information might be lost in the conversion.
Step 3: If you've already updated Trados Studio and the issue persists, it might be a more complex problem that requires further investigation.
If none of these steps resolve the issue, it might be a more complex problem that requires further investigation.
