How to change the default location of Trados Studio 2022 files to the D:\ drive?

Hello!

It seems that using Dropbox on the C:\ drive is causing bugginess with Trados Studio 2022 SR 1. I have liked using Dropbox over the years for the tens of thousands of non-translation files I have, and this is the first time that I've come across any complication with any program.

Because Dropbox is so entwined with my C:\ drive, I figure that the best thing is to change the location of Trados Studio files to my as-yet-unused D:\ drive, which has no connection to Dropbox.

I also learned that clients frown upon the use of cloud services for their files. (I'm new at this. I'm a student preparing for my internship in the fall.)

The problem is, now that I've copied all the files for the Trados Studio Level 1 eLearning course to D:\, I don't know how to change the default location for program files.

Can anyone help?

Many thanks in advance!

  • Hello Kathleen,

To change the default location of your Trados Studio 2022 files to the D:\ drive, you can follow these steps:

Step 1: Open Trados Studio 2022.

Step 2: Go to "File" in the top menu.

Step 3: From the dropdown menu, select "Setup".

Step 4: In the Setup menu, select "Locations".

Step 5: In the Locations settings, you will see a field for "Download path for cloud projects". This is where Trados Studio saves your project files by default.

Step 6: Click on the "Browse" button next to this field.

Step 7: In the window that opens, navigate to your D:\ drive and select the folder where you want to save your Trados Studio files.

Step 8: Click "OK" to close the window and save your changes.

Now, Trados Studio 2022 will save your project files to the location you specified on your D:\ drive. This should help avoid any issues caused by Dropbox on your C:\ drive.

Remember, it's always a good practice to keep client files secure and respect their preferences regarding the use of cloud services.

Best of luck with your internship!

  • I followed all the steps, then I closed Trados Studio and reopened it. I found that the file locations for my projects are still designated as the C:\ drive path.

What can I do to change the settings for the files I've already worked on?

    Thanks in advance!
