Exported file

Hello

I'm a beginner in translating with Trados. I have translated a document from English to French using Trados. However, after exporting the file, the translated version appears unstructured, even though I made sure to respect the tags. What can I do to fix this issue without manually editing the document with Word?

Best regards Screenshot of a bilingual Trados Studio document showing English text on the right and its French translation on the left with a circled formatting error in the French version.

Let me guess: the source was a PDF file. And you translated it directly in Studio from English to French. This means already the formatting of the source (which is Word converted from PDF in that case) is not perfect.  I will not go into details of the everlasting discussion how to translate PDF. The best way is always having the PDF converted manually using a proper tool or by a professional.

Another point is your target language, which is much longer than English. What you can do now is reformatting your target. You can use a narrow font, like Arial Narrow instead of Arial. You can change the font size, making it smaller by 1 point for example. And you can also try to shorten the target. But you cannot expect this be done by any tool...

  • Thank you kindly, sir, for your response. I would greatly appreciate it if you could inform me of any reputable online or software tools available for efficiently converting files from PDF to Word. Additionally, I was wondering if there is a particular version of Word that is known to be compatible and work seamlessly with Trados. Thank you in advance for your assistance.
