2022 SR1 bug? Studio might use first font face listed instead of selected face

Goal: To use Yu Gothic Medium as the display font

Studio seems to apply a different, default font if I select Yu Gothic Medium.

As a compromise, I can select Yu Gothic, which seems to cause Studio to use Yu Gothic Light, the first face listed.

Trados Studio Custom Language Fonts setting showing Japanese language selected with Yu Gothic Medium highlighted but not applied.

Previous Studio versions seemed to prevent me from using Yu Gothic unless the UI language was Japanese.

Now, the UI language does not matter, so maybe some progress has been made, but I would prefer Yu Gothic Medium.

Maybe the issue is caused by interaction between Studio and Windows (11 Pro, US locale).

Thank you.

Thanks for your feedback.  The development team have made some substantial changes to the editor with this version. I'll share your feedback with the team and feedback as appropriate.

  • Thank you for your prompt reply,  .

I appreciate the progress in development, which I'm sure is complex.

    Best wishes.

  • Double checked and for me is the other way around. I can always set up Yu Gothic Medium, but never Light.

The new version of the editor will always try to fallback to a font that can render all characters that are on display. The font fallback list is the actual Windows Font List of which Yu Gothic and all it's Font Faces are part of, so there is no reason to choose one over the other.

A CRQ can be logged on this one.

  •   ,

Thanks to you both. Don't hesitate to contact me again as needed.

I'm sure you will be able to solve the issue, but when I saw this observation...

font fallback list is the actual Windows Font List

...it reminded me of my own, non-programmer observation about previous versions of Studio:

Previous Studio versions seemed to prevent me from using Yu Gothic unless the UI language was Japanese.

I imagined that Studio relied on a certain kind of font file identification in Windows.

I seem to recall that somehow, the right conditions for this identification existed with the Studio UI set to Japanese but not English.

Not sure if this information is correct or helpful to you, but I wanted to mention it. Best wishes in troubleshooting.

In the meantime, I am using a different typeface, but Bogdan is welcome to send me his computer as a workaround Smirk

Developers have a meme: It works on my computer. Sometimes we would love to ship our computers instead of working on some hardcore bugs that we can barely reproduce :)

  •     Wink

There's probably another meme about "The application crashes if I do this." → "Then don't do that."

I might not have noticed this issue so soon if I hadn't switched to a higher-resolution monitor that showcases Yu Gothic Light in all its hairline glory.

Maybe I should just go back to the low-res monitor ; )

  • similar problem here, SR1 installed, now the target font can't be changed anymore, I can tick Arial or whatever in the dialogue box but it won't show, the target segments are always displayed in the default font, looking at former posts regarding SR1 for version 2021 this seems to be a recurring bug

  •

This is not the same problem at all... nor is it a recurring bug.

Please explain what you are trying to do here?  Change the font in the editor or in the target document?
