Simple functions deactivated in Trados Studio 2022 (Freelance version)

I have Trados Studio 2022 Freelance version and simple actions such as adding a file to an existing project or creating a TM on the basis of a translated XLIFF file are greyed out (inactive). I checked the Editions Comparison Table and I believe I should have access to these functions. Can somebody help?

For your first error: you are trying to add a file with different source language than defined in your project template.

For your second error: you have added TMs both in All Language Pairs and in a specific language pair. This does not work, as those two options exclude each other.

There are many solutions for your problems. If you work ONLY with single files, then do the following:

    • Go to File -> Options -> Language Pairs
    • Chose All Language Pairs
    • Chose Translation Memory and Automated Translation
    • Remove ALL TMs listed there
    • Now go to your specific language pairs one by one
    • Chose Translation Memory and Automated Translation
    • Add corresponding TMs under each single language pair
    • When you now open a signle file for translation and chose the language pair, Studio will present you only the TMs configured for this specific language pair

    For working with projects:

    • Look at your list of projects and select one perfectly configured project for the desired language pair
    • When the project is selected, select "Create Project Template" from the menu bar above, section "Tasks"
    • Give the template a sounding name
    • Do so for all language pairs needed
    • When creating a new project, select those templates instead of the default one

  • Thank you very much! I think the problem may also be due to the fact that I'm creating projects from the Welcome page using the browsing option (here you are not able to choose a template), whereas, in this case, I should probably create projects from the projects page instead. I will try this in the future.

Thank you again! I think you just made my life a bit easier :-)

You are always able to chose the template, even if coming from the Welcome Page via Browse button. If you chose to create a new local project, the Project Wizard will start and show you this:

Trados Studio Project Wizard showing 'Use Settings from' with 'Default' selected and a 'Browse' button, followed by 'Project Name' with 'Project 1' entered.

Under "Use settings from" you can chose either a Template, or an existing project to base your new project on it.

So create templates as needed and use them. This will make your life much easier. And organizing your files and folders in a systematic way will add an extra simplification on this.
