Can delete duplicated folders like -BaseSettings.xml?
Hello, please, some time ago I had problems with Studio and I was instructed to rename some folders in Studio Freelance 2021 plus, putting a dash in front of the folder name, as -BaseSettings.xml. Later I needed to activate the "REPAIR" resource and this created other folders with the same names. Now I have duplicate folders, the three with the dashes and the same three without the dashes.
I would like to know, please, if I can delete the folders that I renamed and leave only those that were created in the REPAIR process. (the folders are: -BaseSettings.xml , -plugincache.xml and -UserSettings.xml.
Thank you very much for your kind attention in responding.

You can delete them all if you like.  It won't break anything, it will only reset the application.  You also won't lose working data, but you will ose other things that may, or may not, be important.  This is all these files contain:

    • BaseSettings.xml: Essentially a pointer, this file indicates the origin of the default profile. If its location has been modified, removing this file will lead to a reset, aligning it with the location in the default UserProfiles.

    • UserSettings.xml: This is a repository of most customisations you've made in Studio. It encompasses settings like custom keyboard shortcuts, window placements, colour theme preferences, agreement to data sharing terms, Translation Memory lists, settings under File -> Options, units designated for confirmation stats, and recently accessed directories for various resources. This file holds a wealth of personalised settings. Deleting it means undertaking the task of re-establishing these settings. Most configurations in this file are not exportable through Studio's UI, hence restoring them requires manual effort.

    • Settings.xml: This file contains URLs for any server connections added, be it Translation Memories or Termbases. The credentials for these connections aren't stored here but are encrypted in a different part of the software. Removing this file leads to the loss of all established connections, necessitating their re-addition.

  • Hi Paul,

Thank you very much. I'm going to finish a job and when I close Studio I'll delete the folders. Tks, tks, tks.
