If you can provide a simple file demonstrating these messages it would be helpful.  Based on your description alone it's a bit tricky to offer any help.

Is it correct to assume that there is a setting this? I don't recall ever having seen this warning before, so it would not appear to be a default setting.

So what I would like to know is where the setting is and how to turn it off.

In the project in question, there was actually a style guide that explicitly called for use of the oxford comma, so I didn't understand why it wasn't turned off when the project was prepared.But when I eventually got around to opening the QA options menu, I see that there is no oxford comma related setting shown.

This Oxford comma check in not in the Punctuation section, but it must be a regular expression rule. This screen shot shows no regex rules; in your case, it won't be empty, and one of the rules should be related to the Oxford comma:

When I open that menu item, however, there us nothing there, and Oxford comma doesn't appear on the examples list.
Could you provide an example of how that would look if defined?

You have opened your File > Options settings. If you didn’t create the project, you need to check the Project Settings (as in my screen shot).

I missed that detail.

Since this was for an actual project (I am registered as an RWS vendor) that is of course confidential, I will refrain from posting a screen shot of the actual TM.

I have found the culprit settings, though I don't know how to turn them on or off, etc.

Since there are several "Regular Expressions" defined on this list in the relevant TMs that directly contradict what is in the Style Guide for the project, I will have to contact the PJM team and bring these to their attention.

As mentioned, since I tend to focus on the content creation end of this work, I don't really need to know how to make/edit these settings at present.

Select the offending regex rule, click the Action button and then select Remove Item and lick OK. The removed rule won’t be run in the next QA. And I’d let the cient know that the rule is wrong or doesn’t follow the Style Guide.

I’d let the client know the inconsistencies found and which takes priority… Sometimes they are grateful!
