Hello FL,
I understand you're encountering an "object reference" error while aligning files in Trados Studio. This error usually occurs when the software tries to reference an object that doesn't exist or is null. Here's how you can troubleshoot this issue:
Step 1: Ensure that all the files you're trying to align have unique names. If there are any duplicate file names, rename them to make them unique.
Step 2: Check if the files you're aligning are in a supported format. Trados Studio supports a wide range of file formats, but if you're using a format that's not supported, it could cause this error.
Step 3: Make sure that the files you're aligning are not open in another program. If a file is open elsewhere, Trados Studio may not be able to access it, leading to this error.
Step 4: If the error persists, try restarting Trados Studio. Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve minor glitches and errors.
Step 5: If none of the above steps work, you may need to repair your Trados Studio installation. You can do this from the "Programs and Features" section of your computer's Control Panel. Find Trados Studio in the list of installed programs, right-click on it, and select "Repair."
I hope these steps help you resolve the issue. If you continue to experience problems, please provide more details about the error and the steps you've taken so far, and I'll be happy to assist further.

None of this information is applicable in my case. But there is some more detail in the message about the files not being found. What can't Studio find my files when I can see them on my computer?

Hello FL,
I'm sorry to hear that you're still experiencing issues. If Trados Studio is unable to find your files even though they are visible on your computer, it could be due to a few reasons. Here are some steps to help you troubleshoot:
Step 1: Check the File Path: Ensure that the file path where your files are located does not contain any special characters or is too long. Trados Studio might have issues recognizing such paths.
Step 2: File Accessibility: Make sure the files are not set to 'Read Only' or are not currently being used by another program.
Step 3: File Location: If your files are located on a network drive, try moving them to your local drive. Sometimes, network issues can prevent Trados Studio from accessing the files.
Step 4: Refresh the File View: In Trados Studio, try refreshing the file view. You can do this by clicking on the 'Refresh' button or by closing and reopening the project.
Step 5: Update Trados Studio: Ensure that you are using the latest version of Trados Studio. You can check for updates within the application.
If you're still having trouble after trying these steps, please provide more details about the error message and the type of files you're trying to align. I'm here to help!

I do use OneDrive and my files are synched to the cloud. Could that be the problem?
Certainly OneDrive, Dropbox, etc. can pose a problem if Studio resources are saved in folders synced by these services. You an have a look at this post re. this issue:
